There are a ton of guides to shielding out there if you google them. The shield tape uses a conductive glue so as long as there is overlap between all of the pieces and continuity between all points of the pickup electronics cavities it should help reduce outside noise. If you have any noise issues you can try using some copper foil tape to shield the electronics and pickup cavities. Unless they're scratchy/noisy I wouldn't see any reason to change these, what you have in there is as good or better than any modern pot.Ĭhanging pots to new ones of the same spec won't yield any real difference unless one or more of them is far off from the spec value, though cheaper pots can often be off as much as 20%.Īny open frame mono 1/4" jack should be fine for a replacement, switchcraft are cheap and reliable, but there are other brands too. If you have push on strat-style knobs (should be right for a 77) then they're splined/split shaft. The musicmaster uses split shaft 250K pots I believe.
